MANDATE
Extension
activities under Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute,
Berhampore, (WB) have been initiated from 1971 in an organized way and
accordingly Extension Division has started functioning since then.
Central
Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Berhampore, (WB), through its
own Extension Division and nested units, is presently involved in effective
communication and transfer of improved silkworm breeds / hybrids, mulberry
varieties and different technologies. Following are some of the functions
of the Division:

ACHIEVEMENTS

Determined the adoption level of few
selected improved sericultural technologies, developed at this premier
Research Institutes, at farmers’ level.
Ø
Determined the Yield Gap in sericulture between
Research Institute, demonstration Plot and Farmers’ field.
Ø
Popularization of improved mulberry varieties
under wider spacing (2'x2' / 3’x3’) at farmers level for better
quality leaf harvest.

Popularization of Improved package of practices of
mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing through TAVT (Technology
Assessment, Validation and Transfer) Project and TAR (Technology
Assessment and Refinement) Programme
Ø
Successful organization of different Extension
communication programmes to educate the farmers and to motivate them to adopt
sericultural technologies through --- Exhibition, Farmers’ Field Day,
Audio-Visual programme, Group Discussion and Farmers Training.
