The R&D sector and administrative wing of this institute is absolutely controlled by the Director.  There are at present nine scientific disciplines including two major important sections like Extension and Training Division.  In addition, Project Monitoring, Coordination and Evaluation Cell (PMCE), Computers, Statistics, Reeling & Fibre Techonology, Bio Technology Lab are well associated at the main Institute.  There are about 400 staff members working either at the main institute or at its constituent units.  Each and every unit is well coupled that helps the dissemination and implementation of technologies, faster.  Besides this institute keeps strong link to the State Sericultural directorates and other such Government and Non-Government organization to endorse silk industry to the rural door steps.

The Institute has established the networks of Regional Sericultural Research Stations (RSRS) in important zones for adaptable research.  Research Extension Centers as well as its sub-units are in act operating various field trials and transmitting the modern packages for sericulture promotion, both in traditional and non-traditional zones.
